My favorite thing about the Smokies:

The views. It's awesome to hike about 5 miles and see something that you would never be able to see. I am in a sense of awe every time that I hike in the Smokies.

About Me:

I am a Youth Minister in Alabama. I am 32 years old and I love to "get-away" and enjoy the Smokies. I am one of the many of whom their parents never took to the Smokies and had to discover them on my own. I went to the University of Tennessee in '93-'94 and absolutely fell in love with the mountains. One day, I hope to call the area home.

Showers in the area???

I have heard that there are shower facilities in the areas outside but near the park. Are there really? My family will be tent camping this weekend but may cut it short by a day or two if we can't take a shower. "Ewwww..." as my son would say. Thanks for any help on this!

Just a little delay...

Well, my family and I were supposed to go to camp at Cades Cove Oct. 27-29th. We had to cancel going last weekend and trade it for THIS weekend. I understand that the overnight temps were right about mid to lower 30's then and is supposed to be a "same song second verse" this weekend. We are prepared should it dip that low but I've never camped when it's that cold. Anyway, I'll post next Monday with pics and observations also.

Dramamine PLEASE!!!!!

Being a Youth Minister, I thought that it would be awesome to take a group of about 30 youth and stay in a log cabin and enjoy the outdoors while also doing Bible Studies and such. So, for Spring Break on March 17-20th we went and stayed at a brand new or fairly new cabin that had the most awesome view that we could have asked for. It has a nice lake and a nice bike/hiking trail around the lake. Hot showers, a nice campground outpost store and in a beautiful spot on the cherohala skyway.
