Dolly Parton's 'Sha-Kon-O-Hey!' CD raises $5,032 for Friends of Smokies

An eight-song CD by Dolly Parton commemorating the Great Smoky Mountains National Park's 75th anniversary and sold in area Food City stores has netted more than $5,000 for a park support organization.

Groundbreaking for Oconaluftee on park's 75th birthday

OCONALUFTEE, N.C. - It was 1940 and times were tough for 15-year-old Clarence Allison and his family down on the farm in Haywood, N.C. Allison needed a job and the Civilian Conservation Corps was hiring workers to build the Oconaluftee Visitor Center, located two miles north of Cherokee, N.C. "The only thing I had ever done was work on a farm and drive a team of horses," said the now 85-year-old Allison.

Teens to experience a new New Deal by working in Tennessee parks

NASHVILLE - State parks are Tennessee's playgrounds. Families use them to boat and fish, to camp and hike, to see wildflowers in the spring and colorful leaves in the fall. What many may not realize is that the Great Depression and its New Deal jobs programs laid the foundation for the parks system.

I know you have to edit and rewrite them for my grammar errors, but I think we could work something out. What you think?
