Hope ya'll have a wonderful trip and anniversary! It's a good time of year to go, most folks think the leaves will be gone by now so it's not so crowded. Last time I went was the first week of November and the leaves were perfect. Hope the best tr...

Congrats on 38. That sets a good example in an age where marriage is sometimes thought of as disposable.

Sandy, thank you for the wonderful suggestions. I had made a glancing thought towards such business organizations when I read your blog about the GSMA and saw their new member businesses. I will have this blog on archive so I can refer back to your suggestions if I get further on down this road. GOOD IDEA on the bus for around Cades Cove. The NPS has been threatining to do that for years, only their idea is NO CARS in the Cove at all. You can come as far as the campground/picnic area that's it. I think parking is the deal-breaker at the moment. There would lots of NPS red tape to work through, maybe with the right approach, say an enviro-freindly vehicle. I once visited Sequoyah Nat'l Park in CA. There were groves of "big trees" which were one of the Park's main attractions much like Cades Cove. The NPS took people around in little tram-trains kinda like Dollywood, they used roads that had been open to cars but had been closed for traffic, to keep auto exhaust away from the trees. Trams came along regularly, you could get off, walk around for as long as you like and then come back to the road and pick up the next tram. Backcountry hikers had to use the trams to access some trailheads. I thought it worked well.

Quote found in back of my WILDFLOWERS OF THE SMOKIES Guide Book

Trees

I think that I shall never see
A poem lovely as a tree.
A tree whose hungry mouth is prest
Against the earth's sweet flowing breast;
A tree that looks at God all day,
And lifts her leafy arms to pray;
A tree that may in Summer wear
A nest of robins in her hair;
Upon whose bosom snow has lain;
Who intimately lives with rain.
Poems are made by fools like me,
But only God can make a tree.

The Smokies This Decemeber

Hello Friends!

Well it's been a while since I've checked in here...
Hope all of you are having a great Autumn!

Summer is gone, went by way too fast, and now this Fall, going by quickly.... Now "Falling Back" is at my door,
on the clock that is, as well as the Falling of leaves in my yard... all pretty too.

Any way, this morning I made some travel arrrangements. We're going to be in Pigeon Forge,
and the Smoky Mts. for our 38th wedding anniversary, in Dec. We usually go each year, for our
spec… Continue

Samantha Brown of The Travel Channel Visits The Great Smoky Mts.

Hi There Friends,

A few evenings ago me and hubby watched Samantha Brown's Great Weekends on TTC.

That particular show took her to do some hiking in the GSMNP up to Mt. Le Conte Lodge, and Rainbow Falls.
She also did some White Water Rafting, , and her travels took her over to Townsend; to explore the Tuckaleechee Caverns. After viewing the segment on it, my hubby wants to go exploring, I'm game too.
It looks pretty amazing down there! http://www.tuckaleecheecaverns.com.

Came Across Some Quilt Barns Today

This is kinda a follow up to a Blog I posted a few weeks ago...
In my own area, ( the Cumberland Plateau) I came across these quilt barns.... well I'd call these structures storage bldgs, not true barns, but they serve the purpose...

Now the 3rd one I want to take a photo of, I did not get to yet,
and it is on an actual Barn....It has bright orange colors, and is a star pattern I think... ha!

Of the two photos, as far as the setting, and structure go, I like the one on Union Rd. Best..
I like… Continue
