Is it possible to do the 70 mile trek without staying in shelters? I much prefer the comfort and solitude of my tent to mice crawling all over me! Are there enough campsites along the way that one could do that alternative to shelters?

It's hard to top Alum Cave to LeConte in my book, but I'll have to say that reaching the top of Gregory Bald and seeing the beauty of all those flame azaleas in late June is one that's hard to beat. It takes my breath away each time.

I'm going to Little River trail in Elkmont Saturday. Is the slide on the way there? I can't quite picture where it is, so I can't figure out it I need to change my route.

My only encounter with one was on that same trail. Maybe it was the same bird. It was the first time I'd ever seen one and when I heard it, it scared me to death!

I would take my favorite trail (Alum Cave) to Mt. LeConte and spend the afternoon drinking hot chocolate, rocking in the rocking chair, and enjoying the view. After the hike, I would enjoy a nice home-cooked meal at Carver's Apple Orchard restaurant…

Question about shuttle

Does anyone know if it is a must to prearrange shuttle pickup with a certain time or is there a service that you can call when you are ready? How would you know what time you might be finished with a long trail?

Sugarland Mountain trail

I'm planning on hiking this trail in a couple of weeks, but the most recent review I can find is from 2002. Can anyone tell me anything about this trail?

Gabes Mountain Trail

Hiked Gabes Mountain trail today and was so impressed with the beauty and serenity of this trail. There were several rough creek crossings due to the recent rain, but that added to the beauty. An added treat was a waterfall and fast-flowing cascade that was not far from Hen Wallow Falls. Just wondering...is that always there or was it just due to the rains?
