Wow! Hard to narrow down.
About Me:
I have been going to the Smokies since September 1976. If I didn't lie in the best place in Florida, I would live in the Smokies. My wife and I love hiking the trails, enjoying a donut and coffe in the Village, and relaxing in the chalet or on the deck.

Spruce Flat Falls Trail

We made our move from Maggie Valley to the National Park on Thursday. Went from Maggie to Cherokee and up through the park. We met some friends from our hometown for lunch and then drove over to our chalet. We got a good one again this year, located in the center of the Arts and Crafts Community loop. Our view looks out towards Mt. LeConte and it is gorgeous. On Friday morning we started the day with breakfast at the Pancake Pantry, a locally owned business that we really enjoy. After breakfast w… Continue

Antiquing in the Smokies

Okay, so we came to the mountains for the mountains, I understand that. But, one of the things about the mountains is that when you are there, you actually get to live a little bit like the permanent residents. You see, some of us live in other parts of the country and we only get snippets of mountain life. So, when opportunity knocks, we do something that the locals do. After all, the mountains enhance almost every activity that a guy does. Yesterday that activity was antiquing. The rain was po… Continue

A Day at the Courthouse and Graveyards

This is our third trip to our friends cabin. We had yet to see much of a sunrise, which has really been too bad because I have seen photos of their sunrises and they can be spectacular. Well, today was our day. I scampered out of bed when the alarm went off at 6, rushed up to the deck and took a quick glance at the horizon. The morning was clear (I could tell by the stars in the sky). I quickly went back to the kitchen and got me a cup of tea and a cinnamon donut to enjoy on the deck. Minutes la… Continue

Finally Arrived

What a great day! We got up early and finished up some final details for work, had to hurray so we weren't late for the morning church service. Don't want to miss our Sunday morning worship service...the time spent there is so rewarding. After the service we said our "goodbyes" and packed up the vehicles. Boy, what a load of luggage!! You would have thought that we were spending a month rather than a week in the mountains. We got on the road about 2:00 after a quick lunch at our local Arby's. Not… Continue
