My favorite thing about the Smokies:: What draws me back to the Smokies every year is the peacefulness, the beauty of the mountains and the history. Indiana, at least where I am, has nothing to offer except snow in the winter and corn in the summer.

Sort of glad to be home

We were tent camping in the Smokies all of last week - tiring vacation.

I woke up Tues. morning with fluid behind my right ear. I'm guessing a cold settled there. It's feeling better today finally.

Our son woke up Thurs. morning vomitting.

And it rained Tues, Wed, Thur and Fri. They actually had closed Cades Cove to car traffic on Fri. You couldn't rent bikes either. You could walk the loop road or ride your own bike though.

Is my chain being yanked again? Cattail Pancakes?

Trying to finish up plans for our trip and I ran across this on a website that had some Smokies info ...

Ingredients

Cattail spikes
flour
egg
milk
pinch salt

Strip the pollen from the tops of cattail spikes in late spring / early summer. (It's a fuzzy spike above the actual "cat's tail", and you want to strip off all the pollen fuzz along with the yellow pollen powder.) Found a thesis someone posted online and it lists cemeteries of the park. This coming up trip we won't be venturing farther than Cades Coves so I thought I might try to find at least some of them. The more hidden ones, I've visited the ones by the churches.

Speaking of falls ... Mill Creek Cascade and Arch?

I'm adventerous but not a fool. Is it worth the hike? And if so, how do I find it since it's not on the current trail maps? I have a general idea but I'd to be a little more certain before venturing out.

Little River BBQ in Townsend - good food?

I was looking at Townsend's website and saw this place listed. They are next to River Rage tubing. I looked over their menu and now I'm hungry, especially for some good BBQ and cole slaw! Should I put this on my "places to stop at" list or pass on by?
