Congratulations! My husband and I would love to retire closer to the mountains. Who knows maybe one day it might happen. Enjoy, for the rest of us lowlanders.

Wishing you a safe and happy trip next week! Cades Cove is really pretty right now with the new spring growth popping out everywhere. There are a few bears out and about now but April and May is when the bear sightings increase. The mama bears are taking care of their new babies right now and don't expose them to much until they're several weeks old. The papa bears are still sleeping the winter off, taking time to mosey out and fill their tummies then napping again. (hmmm... sounds familiar!!) Some of the yearlings come out early to try out their "maturity". I hope you're lucky enough to spot one of these neat creatures. We had 87 sightings last year and every one was just as special as the first!!

Welcome Ed!
My wife and I have talked about moving down there (from Indiana) for years, but we have never gotten past the talking stage. Good to see you took action, and apparently are making your dream come true. (Perhaps you could set aside an acre or so for my wife and I...........? We could help with chores and stuff). Great photos, and your place looks lovely. Thanks for sharing and I hope you enjoy GoSmokies!

Being a neighbor - literally! When we close on our property, the Smokies will be our next door neighbor. And what a glorious, quiet, interesting, colorful, dynamic neighbor. I can't wait to borrow a cup of sugar!

Howdy, Neighbor!

Well we did it. Its a big deal to us. We closed on Feb. 4 on our 20+ acres in Swain County adjoining the SW corner of the GSMNP. Its a piece of Heaven. We're going to get to know the rangers at Twentymile station really well because they'll be our first line of defense if something weird happens. Next up, take delivery of our Airstream so we can start enjoying our property. Hey, you gotta live in something, right?
